As always, there’s plenty to do in NYC free and cheap on weekends, and this mid-September weekend offers parades, art fairs and the Feast of San Gennaro street festival. Plus, unlike other “what to do in NYC on the weekend” lists, only NYC on the Cheap gives you a list of FREE stuff to do, unless you buy stuff. Unless otherwise noted, street fairs are 10am to 5pm.

Photoville at Brooklyn Bridge Park – More than just a photo exhibit in repurposed shipping containers, this is also an event with seminars by top photographers, performance art and more. Photoville website.
Saturday in New York City
Labor Day Parade – Join the parade on Fifth Avenue, marching from 44th St. uptown to 67th Street, starting at 10am. Details here.

Muslim Day Parade – On Madison Avenue starting at 12:20pm. Parade website.
Riverside Skate Jam – There will be competitions, open skate, a raffle, food vendors, and all day fun. Bring your board and full gear: helmet, elbow and knee pads for those over 18, and wrist guards for those under 18; + wrist guards for those under 18 are required to join in. Or you can check your board at the gate and just hang out and watch. 11am to 5pm at Riverside Park Skate Park at 108th St. Details here.

Vendy Plaza: Dozens of food trucks are at the famous El Marqueta area at 125th St. and Park Avenue every Sunday through Nov. 1st. Details here.
