The location at Sixth Avenue and 37th Street will open on Saturday, Oct. 3rd. Like all the others in the chicken chain, it will be closed Sundays in concert with the Southern Baptist views of CEO Dan Cathy, whose recent anti-gay remarks caused a flurry of headlines and boycotts.
The chicken chain also plan to open a second location a bit further up Sixth Avenue, at 46th Street.
Chick-fil-A has had a limited menu outpost in the New York University food court for more than a decade.
Already the nation’s eighth biggest chain by sales, Chick-fil-A grew its sales by just over 14 percent last year, according to market research firm Technomic. According to Forbes, it has a higher sales volume than Kentucky Fried Chicken, which has more locations nationwide.
Known for its fried chicken sandwiches and waffle fries, the bulk of its locations are in the Southeast, but the privately-held company is moving into such new markets as Detroit, Nevada and Portland, Oregon.
