Rooftop Films is known for showing lesser known flicks at various locations all summer. This weekend, the FREE outdoor films include an animation festival, a documentary about the Rolling Stones and Talking Heads, and another about environmental activists.
The Rooftop Films screenings are Thursday, Friday and Saturday along the Waterfront Plaza at Arts Brookfield, the new name of the World Financial Center. There’s an hour of live music at 7;30pm, followed by the screenings at 8;30pm. Here’s the nightly schedule –
THURSDAY, JULY 30:
– The premier animation short film festival of the East Coast, drawing huge crowds to see the best new animated films in the world.
FRIDAY, JULY 31:
– Armed with state-of-the-art cameras and profound purpose, the Academy Award Winning Filmmakers of The Cove bring you the latest environmental exposé. Follow a team of artists and activists as they expose the hidden world of extinction with never-before-seen images that will change the way we see the planet.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 1:
– An innovative concert movie that captures the enormous energy and joyous highs of the Talking Heads live performance. Shot over three concert performances in LA in December 1983, director Jonathan Demme’s creative genius and the band’s explosive energy made it “one of the greatest rock movies ever made” (Rolling Stone).
