Wasabi Sushi & Bento is celebrating its first anniversary in NYC by giving away FREE onigiri, through Feb. 28th. The freebie is for either one seaweed or one salmon onigiri to any customer who tags the restaurant on social, and shows the post at checkout.
Freebie lover beware: You cannot just take a photo of the display of $2.75 salmon onigiri in the shop and tag it on social to get the freebie, as I did earlier this week.
Unfortunately, we saw nothing on the promotional birthday materials in the cafe directing you to like Wasabi Sushi & Bento on Facebook or follow them on Twitter or Instagram first. Only then does your post on one of their social pages tagged with @Wasabi_NYC qualify for the freebie.
Or so we were told at the check-out counter.
So, unless you have wicked privacy settings in place on your social sites, they get your access to your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram friends and contacts for the price of an onigiri.
No deal. My friends and followers are worth more than $2.75.
Even so, NYC on the Cheap recommends this Japanese fast-casual restaurant at the corner of Seventh Ave. and 40th Street for affordable food in the Times Square area, for freshly-made sushi for around $1 a piece, bento boxes under $10, plus soups and salads. Choose a grab-and-go snack or full meal, or stay to eat at one of the tables or counters in this brightly-lit.
This is the first NYC outpost for the popular London-based chain. Wasabi Sushi & Bento website.
