World Trade Center Observation Deck: Due to open in the spring, on the 100th, 101st and 102nd floors of the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, as was its predecessor Twin Towers. There’s also a dining room, which won’t be as fancy or pricey as the legendary Windows on the World. The new eatery is being managed by the same company that owns the food concessions at Yankee Stadium.
Loews Kings Theater: One of the great movie palaces of the 1930s re-opens in February as a multi-purpose performing arts center after a $90 million renovation including new high-tech equipment. The 3,250 seat theater, at 1027 Flatbush Avenue, is a short walk from the Q, B, 2 and 5 subway lines. The New York Times reports the theater is spurring new businesses to open nearby, including a Gap Factory and a Crunch gym.
Whitney Museum: The new location in Soho is due to open in May after five years of construction, with 50,000 feet of indoor gallery space and 13,000 outdoors, much of it overlooking the High Line.
Pier 55: A complex of park land, shops, restaurants, and a 700-seat theater on the Hudson River at 15th St is due to begin construction in 2015, and open in 2018 or 2019. $100 million of the estimated $130 million cost is being donated by the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation. The new pier will replace the rotting hulk where the steamship Carpathia docked with survivors from the Titanic, and the rusted Cunard arch marking the spot will be restored..

Shake Shack re-opens in Madison Square Park: The original location of the growing chain is set to return this spring after a much-needed kitchen renovation.
Home Depot: The giant hardware store is moving into the former home of Food Emporium at 68th St. and Broadway, adding one more link in a chain of national superstores on the Upper West Side, between 57th and 96th that now includes TJMaxx and Marshall’s, Trader Joe’s and WholeFoods, Michael’s and HomeGoods, and food chains including Chipotle.
