There’s an extra lot to do free and cheap in NYC this three-day Columbus Day holiday weekend. Here’s what’s to plan for on Sunday and Monday, Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12. Nothing on this list is more than $15, because you can have fun in the greatest city in the world without busting your budget. Let’s hope the weather cooperates with the outdoor events, including parades. Unless otherwise noted, events are FREE.
Times Square Fall Fair – Street fair with a theatrical flair. Along 45th St., between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, Sumnday, 10 AM to 4 PM
Sukkot Block Party and Festival – Celebrate the Jewish festival of the harvest at this family-friendly street fair. Sunday, on Duane Street between Church St. and West Broadway, 11 AM to 2 PM. Event website.
Bed-Stuyy Alive – Street fair with music and dance performances. 10 AM to 5 PM both today and tomorrow on Fulton Street, between New York and Brooklyn Avenues. Event website
Hispanic Columbus Day Parade – This annual parade marches up Fifth Avenue from 44th St. to 67th St. beginning at noon Sunday.Columbus Day events in NYC:
Columbus Day at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan – Kids get to make their own historic sailing ships more at this arts and crafts workshop day. Workshops are at noon and 2 PM Sunday and FREE with museum admission, which is $11, and $7 for 65+. Children’s Museum of Manhattan is at 212 W. 83rd St.
Monday, Columbus Day events in NYC
Columbus Day Festival – Street fair on Broadway, between Cedar St. and Battery Place, and along Whitehall St. between Beaver and Stone Streets.
Columbus Day Parade – Everybody loves a parade, and this is one of the largest NYC parades of the year, the 70th Annual Columbus Day Parade celebrates all things Italian, marching up Fifth Avenue from 47th St. to 74th St., on Monday, starting at 11:30 AM.
