One of the best museums in NYC also happens to be FREE all the time, not just one day a week or weekend a month. It’s the Museum at FIT, the Fashion Institute of Technology in Chelsea, which graduates and has graduated some of the top textile and fashion designers in the world.
The current exhibit, Dance and Fashion explores the intersection of the two, with about 100 dance costumes and dance-inspired fashions from the 19th century to today.
There are costumes from the era of the Romantic ballet from the 1830s and ’40s, Christian Dior’s “Black Swan” ballgown, dresses from the Martha Graham Dance Company and other items from top fashion industry names including Valentino, Stella McCartney and Halston.
