It’s another busy summer weekend for FREE events, so you can enjoy NYC on the cheap on this first weekend of August. Because NYCOTC believes you can be cheap and still have fun in the greatest city in the world. Unless mentioned otherwise, street fairs are 10 AM to 5 PM.
Free in NYC on Saturday:
SweetSpot Festival: Music and dancing with a Jamaican theme at this family-friendly fair. Noon to 6 PM at Harlem Pier, 135th St. and the Hudson River. Event website.
USS Baylander: FREE tours of this retired vessel that saw service in Vietnam and then became a training ship. Tours are Saturday and Sunday through Labor Day weekend, at Pier 5, Brooklyn Bridge Park. Baylander webnsite.

Sunday Swing at the Savoy: The Harlem Swing Dance Society presents an afternoon of swing dancing where it all began. Dancable tunes 3-5 PM at the Savoy Plaque, Lenox Ave. between 140th and 141st Streets, where the legendary Savoy Ballroom used to be. Event website
60th Street Festival: street fair on 60th Street, between Fifth and Madison Avenues.
Hindu ceremony for peace: Attend a traditional Hindu aarti lamp-lighting ceremony at Pebble Beach, between the bridges in Brooklyn Bridge Park, from 4 P to 8 PM.
Lexington Avenue Summerfest: street fair on Lexington Ave. between 42nd and 57th Streets
