J&R, which closed its row of electronics, cameras, houseweares and music stores, along Park Row a few months ago, reportedly is re-opening, in a smaller “mini me” version. A J&R outpost will open this fall inside the flagship Century 21 location on Cortlandt Street, near the new World Trade Center.
DataVision, another electronics, cameras and housewares store, has opened a “mini me” version of its former Fifth Avenue location at 50 West 23rd St. in Flatiron.
Nordstrom Rack is opening mid-September in Queens, at The Shops at Skyview Center in Flushing. The scheduled opening date is Wednesday, September 10th. New York Magazine reported that at the opening recently at its location in Downtown Brooklyn, first-day shoppers had a chance to win gift cards valued at up to $1,000.
Another Nordstrom Rack is scheduled to open at Gateway Center in East New York in October, and a new J.C. Penney is opening later this month, in time for back-to-school shopping. According to Crain’s New York Business, the store will have large murals of Brooklyn landmarks at the entrance and an eco-friendly design that uses 45% less energy than the typical J.C. Penney store.
Gateway Center is the huge mall near JFK Airport which also has a Target, Wal-Mart and a Home Depot.
