Celebrate the 75th and 50th anniversaries of the NYC World’s Fair with a full day of FREE activities in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Sunday, May 18. The event includes tours of historic World’s Fair sites, 50-cent rides on the historic carousel, puppet shows, face painting, dance performances, and an evening concert and fireworks at the Unisphere.
The tours start at the Queens Museum of Art, which has a special display of World’s Fair memorabilia.
Different foods from around the world will be available, including Belgian waffles, which were introduced to New York and the USA at the 1964 World’s Fair.
At the concert, the Queens Symphony Orchestra will perform “National,” the fifth movement of Ferde Grofe’s “World’s Fair Suite,” which debuted at the opening of the 1964 exposition.Additionally, QSO will perform an Irving Berlin medley, the “Armed Forces Salute,” “Stars and Stripes,” and selections from West Side Story and Oklahoma, highlights from Hello, Dolly.
