This mid-May weekend in NYC is packed with free and frugal family-friendly events. Let’s hope the weather cooperates for all the outdoor events. As always, nothing on the NYCOTC list is more than $20, because we believe you can be cheap and still have fun in the greatest city on the planet. Unless otherwise noted, these NYC events are FREE.
Dance Parade and Festival – More than 150 costumed dance groups, representing dozens of countries and hundreds of dancing styles, from Swing to Bhangra dance down Broadway on Saturday, from 21st St. to Tompkins Square Park, starting at 1PM. At 3PM, the party in the park begins, with more dancing, including FREE dance lessons from professional instructors. Dance Parade website

World’s Fair Festival: Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1964 World’s Fair and the 75th anniversary of the 1939 World’s Fair with a special all-day festival on Sunday that includes a concert and fireworks. See the full NYCOTC posting.
Amsterdam Avenue Festival: Sunday, noon to 5PM, between 77th and 90th Streets
Ye Olde Village Fair: Old-fashioned street fair, on Bedford, Barrow and Commerce Streets, between Seventh Ave. and Hudson Street, 11AM to 6PM.
Fabulous Fifth Avenue Fair – This annual event in Park Slope is Sunday , noon to 5PM between Sterling Place and 12th, with local foods and crafts.
