The events are part of a week-long dances, concerts and film screenings celebrating the 100th birthday of Frankie Manning, the legendary swing dancer, choreographer and teacher.
Here are three FREE dance events at Lincoln Center today through Saturday:
- Learn the basics of the Lindy Hop with contemporary masters Dan Newsome and Lainey Silver and practice your moves to live music at this party for beginners, intermediates, and pros. Solomon Douglas “Swingtet” brings the tunes!
Friday, May 23 at 2:30 and 4:00, Bruno Walter Auditorium
- Documentaries Call of the Jitterbug (1989) (2:30 showing) and Never Stop Swinging (2009) (4:00 showing) provide an up-close and personal view of Frankie Manning and are sure to put you in the mood to dance. Seating is limited available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Saturday, May 24 from 11:00 am–6:00 pm, David Rubenstein Atrium
- Frankie 100All-Day Lindy Dance Party. Spend the whole day learning new steps, practicing your favorites moves, and exploring the historyof the Hop.
