Sample more than 100 New York State wines and cheeses at the Third Annual NY Drinks NY Grand Tasting. Wineries from the Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes and Long Island are participating and pouring. The New York State wine and cheese event is 6-8 p.m. on Monday, March 17, at the Astor Center in Soho, and a civilized way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in NYC. Click here to purchase $35 tickets.
One of the participating wineries is Benmarl in the Hudson Valley. As I wrote in my guidebook “Eating the Hudson Valley: A Food Lover’s Guide to Local Dining & Wineries” (click here to purchase on Amazon), Benmarl is the oldest continuing producing winery in America, since the early-1800s.
Unlike many California wineries which are owned by international corporations, the wineries of New York State are nearly all small, family-owned ventures, where the owner is also the winemaker.
The event is sponsored by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation. Astor Center is at 399 Lafayette St., at East 4th St.
