Make music on the High Line this weekend as your footsteps are turned into instrumental sounds. The Gaits: A High Line Soundwalk is a FREE, downloadable smartphone application with electric guitar chords, zen gongs, and more.
As you pass specific spots along the High Line, your footsteps turn on the music cued to that spot. It’s a similar idea to museum audio guides that explain the artwork in front of you.
To join the fun, download the iPhone or Android application and arrive promptly at 5:00 PM, Sat., Dec. 21. . The walk begins on street level below the High Line at Gansevoort and Washington Streets, moves through the park, and ends on the High Line at West 30th Street. DOWNLOAD THE GAITS.
If you own a small portable speaker, bring it along to use during the soundwalk, or be one of the first 50 participants to arrive at the meeting location to borrow a free, wearable speaker for the event. No RSVP is required, and the event is being held rain or shine – or snow.
For those who need elevator access, enter the High Line via the elevator at West 16th Street and 10th Avenue, and walk south toward Gansevoort Street to meet the music makers.
