You don’t have to join the US Navy to sleep over on an aircraft carrier. NYC’s Intrepid Sea, Air + Space Museum offers young adventurers the chance to experience Operation Slumber, and there are still some slots open for the final sleepover of 2013, December 14th.
The overnights are great fun and include such activities as a scavenger hunt, a ride on the Intrepid’s XD Cosmic Coaster, a souvenir t-shirt, goodies. Perhaps most importantly — sleepovers offer private time in the Space Shuttle Pavillion to meet the newest star of the Intrepid, the USS Enterprise, which re-opened to the publicrecently after its protective covering and walkways were repaired from damage by Superstorm Sandy.
If you are interested, don’t waste time booking a spot, since these opportunities do sell out. Cost is $120 per person, and the Intrepid recommends kids be 6-12 years old for this overnight experience. Click here for the full schedule of sleepover events for 2014.
There also are sleepover opportunities for kids at the American Museum of Natural History. Click here for a recent NYCOTC posting with full information.
