As always, there are lots of free, frugal and just plain cheap family-friendly things to do in NYC this mid-September weekend. Also as always, nothing here costs more than $10 admission, and most are FREE. Be cheap and have fun with NYC on the Cheap.
San Gennaro Festival – This is the final weekend for the ten-day festival, arguably the biggest and best NYC street fair, with food, carnival rides and more. See the full NYCOTC posting for all the details.
Shakespeare in the Library – The group Instant Shakespeare performs the Life and Death of King Richard the Second 1 p.m. Saturday at the Riverside Branch of the NYPL, 127 Amsterdam Ave. at 65th St. FREE
Photoville – More than 40 exhibits of photos by award-winning photographers, plus photo workshops and film screenings, are offered daily through Sept. 29th at Pier 5 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, including films about the building of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the rebuilding of the Rockaways since Superstorm Sandy. Brooklyn Book Festival – New and used books galore, readings by local authors, special events for kids, and more, at this annual ode to the written word. The main event is through Sunday, at Brooklyn Borough Hall and its huge outdoor plaza. See the full Brooklyn Book Festival schedule here. FREE
Go Fish -Take the kids to a day of fishing lessons and puppet shows about fish and the environment, at Rbvert Wagner Jr. Park in Battery Park. Events are throughout the day on Saturday. See the full event schedule here. FREE
