The annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival is one of the most popular FREE summer music events in New York City. There are daily concerts through Sunday, August 25th at various venues, including outdoors in Marcus Garvey Park and indoors at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music’s Jazz Performance Space (55 W. 13th St., 5th Floor). Highlight performances include the premiere of Jimmy Heath’s “Bird is the Word”, a nod to Parker’s nickname, performed by the Jimmy Heath Big Band.
