Qdoba Mexican Grill shut down all seven of its Manhattan locations without warning yesterday, putting about 150 employees out of work. The chain also has one location each in Queens and in Staten Island, which are remaining open. The Qdobas closed just after the lunch rush. According to Crain’s New York Business, Qdoba has been hammered by the success of competing Mexican fast food chain Chipotle Mexican Grill. Qdoba also is closing down another 70 locations around the country. Is Qdoba going out of business? The chain’s owners, San Diego-based Jack in the Box, says no, just the ones in high rent areas like Manhattan. That would be the Manhattan in New York City, not the Manhattan in Kansas.
