83rd Anual Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit Spring Show — The Village has always been famous for its artists, and they show and shine this weekend and next. Artwork, jewelry and other crafts by more than 100 local artists are on display, on University Place, between West Third St and East 13th St. Noon to 6 p.m., Friday through Monday, and again next weekend, June 1/2. Governors Island Family Festival – The new season kicks off with the 9th annual opening-day Family Festival this Saturday, May 25th, from noon to 4 o’clock. Come to Nolan Park for FREE music, theater, dance, arts and crafts, face painting, maritime activities and more. Performers include Astrograss, Arm of the Sea Theater, The Maybelles, Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra, free bike helmet fittings and bike helmet giveaways. There also will be displays by NYC museums including Children’s Art Museum Island Outpost, El Museo del Barrio, and environmental displays by The River Project.
The festival is FREE, and so is the ferry to Governors Island. There are two FREE ferries – from Manhattan, the other from Brooklyn –
- From Manhattan, take the free ferry from the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in Lower Manhattan starting at 10AM, starting at 11AM the ferry will run every half hour.
- From Brooklyn, take the free ferry from Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park starting at 11AM that will run continuously (roughly every 20 minutes).
- The last ferries leave Governors Island at 7PM.
