Beer afficionados rejoice. Extra-strong Skull Splitter ale from Scotland will be available on tap in NYC starting Tuesday, January 29, and its arrival is being celebrated with a tap-a-keg party at St. Andrews Restaurant & Bar in midtown. The Viking-themed brew is from Orkney Brewery, and named for an Earl of Orkney in the 900s A.D. who was fond of splitting the skulls of his enemies. The name is appropriate, since this 8.6 percent ale can give you a splitting headache if you over-indulge.
The brewfest is 6 PM to 9 PM, and also features chance to pose with a costumed Viking. Organizers are encouraging participants to post photos to Instagram with the hashtag #skullsplitter. The most outrageous photos can win prizes including a $50 gift certificate from St. Andrews Restaurant & Bar at 140 W. 46th St.
The suds from Scotland’s Orkney Brewery are due to be served on tap soon at other NYC bars, including Beer Authority, The Ginger Man and Rattle N Hum.
