January is African-American Film Festival month at the New York Public Library, with FREE screenings each Sunday. The films are from Algeria, Kenya, Egypt and the USA, and deal with universal themes including fitting in, and the effect on children when their parents break up. Some are in English, others in Arabic with English subtitles.
The films are at 2 PM each Sunday, at the Mid-Manhattan Library, Fifth Avenue and 40th Street, across from the Main Branch with the Lions out front. Click here for information on each film. There are no reservations, so get there in enough time to get a seat. And click here for the African Film Festival website.
