The $196.20 room rate honors the 1962 opening of the iconic hotel, and includes a voucher for two celebratory cocktails in the Lobby Lounge. Since opening as the Hotel Americana on September 24, 1962, the Sheraton New York has hosted a long list of celebrities, from The Beatles to President Barack Obama, Elizabeth Taylor to Liza Minelli.
The iconic 53-story hotel is a short walk from Times Square and the Theater District, at Seventh Avenue and 53rd Street. The $196.20 room rate represents half off current pricing. The Sheraton New York recently completed a $160 million top-to-bottom renovation of its 1,780 rooms, conference rooms and public spaces.
BTW — The Sheraton was the first hotel company to have a toll-free 800 number for reservations, in the 1960s, when telephone operators connected callers via a PBX board like the one pictured. It’s the same number still in use today.
