Con Edison has a Facebook page that gives you full information on outages, including a map of where the outages are. Enter your address, and you’ll be told an “estimated restoration time” when your power will be restored. Of course, if you have no power, you can’t go online with your desktop, or charge your smartphone or laptop battery, either. Right now we are suffering through the first health-threatening heat wave of the year, Con Edison has broken off contract negotiations with its union workers and locked them out of their jobs, and the lights are staying on with management employees only. But if there’s a blackout, brown-out or just a localized outage, Con Edison wants you to go to your powerless computer or battery-drained phone or laptop for information. Who was the dim bulb who came up with that brilliant idea? Thumbs down on Con Edison.
