Make a memorial toast to the Titanic and her passengers in the same ballroom where surviving crew members gathered after that night to remember in 1912. Through Wednesday, April 18th, the Jane Hotel is serving commemorative Titanic cocktails, including a Bourbon-based “Unsinkable Molly Brown” in honor of the legendary survivor from Denver, and a Champagne-based “ST-705,” named for the number of surviving passengers and crew. When the Carpathia dropped off 705 survivors at Pier 54, just south of where Chelsea Piers is now, crew members were brought a few blocks south to the American Seaman’s Friend Society Sailor’s Home, at 113 Jane Street. That sturdy, six-story red brick building is now the Jane Hotel, beautifully restored, and with rooms starting at $99 a night. Back in 1912, a seaman could stay there for around 55 cents a night.
