Learn how to prepare Hanukkah’s most popular treats from scratch, including traditional latkes (potato pancakes), and sweet, airy sufganiot, which are traditional yeast doughnuts with honey and orange rind, filled with raspberry jam or vanilla custard. Yum. This is a hands-on demonstration and cooking class at the Bowery Culinary Center, inside the Wholefoods store at 95 East Houston St.. The Hanukkah cooking lesson is with Lynn Kutner, a culinary instructor and author of the cookbook Bountiful Bread and A Pocketful of Pies (Irena Chalmers Cookbooks). The class is Tuesday, December 13th, 6 PM to 9 PM. It costs $55. Register here. Even if you don’t celebrate Hanukkah, all the recipes at this class are vegetarian, and it never hurts to expand your vegetarian recipe repetoire. Hanukkah begins at sunddown on Tuesday, December 20, 2011.
