Arrow Electronics is moving its global headquarters from Long Island to Denver. That’s 550 jobs going west, from Melville, to the Denver suburb of Englewood. Normally, I would say stop buying Arrow Electronics products as a way of showing your displeasure with this bad bite into the Big Apple economy, but Arrow makes products and supplies services to the electronics industry — their products and services are inside the things we buy and use, so it’s pretty much impossible to avoid them. According to Crain’s New York Business, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said the state has approved tax credits for Arrow Electronics of up to $11.4 million over five years if 1,250 jobs are created. Now, why didn’t or couldn’t New York Governor Andrew Cuomo have pushed through tax credits to keep Arrow Electronics in the New York metro area and grow jobs here? Thumbs down on Arrow Electronics.
