More than 700 items from the long and legendary career of movie star John Wayne are on display in New York City this weekend before they go on auction in Los Angeles next month. The treasure trove of memorabilia includes cowboy hats, scripts with handwritten notes, costumes, awards, his American Express card, a beret from the film Green Berets, and the eye patch he wore as Rooster Cogburn in the original True Grit. John Wayne died in 1979. The memorabilia is being put up for sale by his estate. It is on display at the Fletcher Sinclair Mansion, 2 East 79th Street, through Sunday, September 25th. The auction by Heritage Auctions is October 6-7, and you can bid for items online.
