This weekend, Fiat is turning Times Square into an old-fashioned drive-in movie theater, with 36 shiny new 2012 Fiat 500s ready to sit in and watch the movies — classic movies and their remakes, on a jumbotron screen. It’s FREE, of course, along with free cappuccino and gelato, and a bocce ball court and live bands, and sign-ups for free test drives of the award-winning 2012 Fiat 500, which is returning to the North America for the first time in decades. It disappeared around the same time the last NYC drive-in disappeared — that would be the Whitestone Drive-In, off Bruckner Blvd and I-95. The Fiat Times Square Drive-In is part of the company’s marketing campaign to build buzz for the car, now arriving in dealer showrooms, and the event literally brings to life the Fiat TV commercials, which are built around a drive-in theme. The event opens to the public at10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and the movies begin at dusk.
