Sad news from the real estate pages: the legendary Ninth Avenue deli, Manganaro’s, is closing soon after more than a century of making the world’s best sandwiches and other Italian favorites.
According to the Wall St. Journal, the five-story building is being sold along with the restaurant, with its marble counters and 100-pound wheels of provolone cheese hanging overhead.
Not closing is the competiting Manganaro’s Hero Boy sandwich shop a few blocks away, opened by the estranged brother of the original Manganaro’s.
One more iconic and historic piece of New York City disappearing.
Hopefully, Manganaro’s still will be open for the world famous Ninth Avenue Food Festival, the street fair that opens New York’s street fair seasion.
