In 1961, 400 Americans risked their lives to travel to the South to challenge segregated facilities in restaurants, schools, even the bus stations these Freedom Riders arrived in. An exhibit of photographs and other news coverage is on display through Wednesday, December 15th, at Lehman College. It’s a travelling exhibit celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Riders and their role in changing American history, and the is the only NYC stop of this exhibit.
Hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 7:45 p.m. Lehman College is part of the CUNY system. It is at Bedford Park Blvd. off the Grand Concourse, in the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx.
