Get those feet moving on the dance floor at two FREE outdoor swing dances today. One isUptown, one Midtown, one to a live band, the other to a DJ, both playing dance tunes of the 30s and 40s, when swing was called Jitterbug, Lindy and maybe even Balboa.
Sunday Swing at the Savoy: The Harlem Swing Dance Society presents an afternoon of swing dancing where it all began. Dance to the music 3 PM to 5 PM at Harlem Haberdashery, 245 Lenox Ave., between 122nd and 123rd Streets. Note that this location is for today only. Normally the dance is at the Savoy Plaque, Lenox Ave. between 140th and 141st Streets, where the legendary Savoy Ballroom used to be. Event website
Moon Dance: Tonight is the final Sunday of the annual five-week Moon Dance series at Pier 84 on the Hudson River, sponsored by Hudson River Park and the dance studio Dance Manhattan. There’s a FREE swing dance lesson at 6:30, and the George Gee Swing Orchestra plays from 7 PM to 10 PM.
