Enjoy the longest day of the year, celebrated around the world with outdoor summer Solstice festivals, including at the annual Times Square Yogathon. Join three thousand of your closest friends for what may be the world’s largest displays of Downward-facing Dog and Warrior Pose in what has to be one of the world’s largest yoga classes. Mats are spread out all day, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m, next Friday, June 21st, and there’s a rotating roster of top meditation and yoga teachers to put you through your paces, including Drisana Carey. Bring your own mat and squeeze into an empty a spot.
The event is sponsored by Athleta, which is also giving FREE yoga lessons in its stores throughout the USA on June 21st, along with giving away yoga apparel and mats nationwide, not just in New York City. Click here to find an Athleta store and free yoga classes near you.
Manhattanhenge — While it’s not technically a summer solstice event, Manhattanhenge is when the sun lines up exactly between the east-west grids of NYC streets. It happens twice a year, in May and July. Click here for the full NYCOTC posting on Manhattanhenge 2013
