Peaceful Places NYC travel guidebook by Evelyn Kanter for residents, visitors

Peaceful Places NYC travel guidebook by Evelyn Kanter for residents, visitors

It’s just what we all need after the stress of April 15th tax day we just survived.  Peaceful Places New York City is your guide to more than 100 of the most tranquil, serene spots in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.  Most of the sites mentioned are free, and each and every one of them is accessible by public transportation, from the medieval Cloisters at the northern tip of Manhattan, to the sandy ocean beaches of Riis Park in Queens.  And in between, there are wildlife refuges, hiking and biking paths, secret gardens, places to borrow a kayak for free.  Lots more.

I think Peaceful Places New York City is a great book for residents and visitors, too.  But I’ll admit to being prejudiced, since  I wrote the book.  The cover photo is one of my own personal favorite peaceful places in NYC — the romantic Bow Bridge in Central Park.  Available in bookstores like Barnes & Noble now.

The rest of the year, The Fur Source is a wholesaler on West 29th Street, in the Manhattan fur district.  Through February 15th only, they are open to the public in midtown,  selling top quality furs, shearlings and leather at wholesale prices.  Mink, shearlings, rabbit and other warm and stylish coats, jackets, hats, mufflers and more are up to half off department store prices at the corner of 57th Street and Sixth Ave.  When I say stylish, I’m not kidding — some minks have laser-cut borders in the shape of roses on sleeves and hem.  There are woven minks, sheared minks, mink earmuffs, and even reversible coats, because you don’t want your fur on the outside when it rains.  The pop-up  storefront is at 101 West 57th St., open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through February 15th.     There is no website, so call 888-896-4970 or email thefursource@aol.com, and tell them you read about it on The Big Apple on the Cheap.
