11th annual holiday train show at Grand Central Terminal, miniature antique trains,NYC on the cheapThe annual FREE Holiday Train Show opens Monday, November 12th at the The New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store at Grand Central Terminal. These are classic, vintage Lionel Trains which run on eight separate loops of track through a 34-foot long miniature New York City scene. The vintage trains are  from the museum’s collection, and will please kids of all ages. Really, who does not love choo choo trains. And, really, who does not love free. Notice we are calling them miniature trains. They are not toys. The display is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Take the kids. Take yourself without the kids.

New York’s Bravest, the FDNY, offers FREE one-hour CPR classes in fire department locations, libraries, and other locations all over New York City. Sign up now for classes in October at the official New York City government website, NYC.gov.  This is a great program. It’s free, and you will learn enough to save somebody’s life. And if you want to learn more, there are CPR certification programs, too. I attended a class recently, and gained the confidence to step in to do chest compressions until a more skilled EMT arrives.

http://www.nyconthecheap.comIf you can’t tell the Big Dipper from Orion’s Belt, or Venus from Mars, this Thursday is the last time this season to spend an evening stargazing with the Amateur Astronomers Association in  Brooklyn Bridge Park. These are outgoing folk with stars in their eyes, and huge telescopes. Stargazing in Brooklyn Bridge Park is Thursday, 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.  Look for the Syfy telescopes on the Pier 1 Promenade. And did we say it’s FREE?  Yes, we did.

NYC on the Cheap, NYC daily deals,Just two weeks away — Thursday, Sept 6th — for the fourth  annual Fashion’s Night Out, a worldwide night of late shopping and fashion-related events, sponsored by the Council of Fashion Designers and Vogue magazine.  Participating retailers in New York City and in other participating cities around the world stay open until nearly midnight, with in-store demonstrations, free samples, and often champagne.  This is a worldwide fashion party, happening the same day  in fashionable cities from Milan and Paris to Miami and Hollywood.  Check the Fashion’s Night Out website periodically for updates, and keep up on Twitter, with the #FNONYC hashtag, as designers, boutiques and department stores register and sign-up.  Last year, for the first time this year, there was an FNO app for both iPhone and Android to help you navigate around the best events and shopping deals, but there’s no word yet whether that is available this year, too.  In NYC last year, Fashion’s Night Out included free pedicab rides for tired shoppers, and a party atmosphere all around town.
