Every Thursday and Friday evening, the Museum of Art and Design in Columbus Circle has a pay-what-you-wish admission policy, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., including for a docent tour at 6:30 p.m., and the opportunity to visit a working artist studio inside the museum at 8:30. Yes, you can enter for free, but you really should offer up a few bucks, since the regular admission is $15. The Museum of Art & Design — MAD for short — is an eclectic museum, with an interesting mix of exhibits, such as the items from millionaire tobacco heiress and art collector Doris Duke, on exhibit through February 2013, and contemporary gems from small town artists. Click here for the full museum schedule, including weekly films and workshops. The Friday free or pay-what-you-wish evening is sponsored by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
