The annual Smithsonian Museum Day Live! is Saturday, September 29th, 2012, when thousands of museums across the country offer free admission. Participating museums in the New York City area include Brooklyn Museum,Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, International Center of Photography on 42nd St., the New York Historical Society on Central Park West, the Morgan Library & Museum on Madison Avenue, and the Noguchi Museum in Astoria. Also on the list is the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Battery Park, which is free every day, not just on Museum Day Live! Important — you can’t just walk in. Free admission on Sept. 29th requires a special admission ticket, which is free to download. Each ticket is good for two people, and does not include special exhibits, parking or showings such as IMAX. And go early in the day, since museums have the right to make you wait in favor of paying customers if space reaches capacity.
