Labor Day weekend is the official end of summer in NYC, and there is a long list of FREE and cheap events and activities to help you celebrate — or mourn.

Friday

  • The last fireworks of the season at Coney Island.  9:30 p.m., on the Boardwalk.

Saturday

  • Central Park Conservancy Youth Basketball Clinic.  Sharpen your dribbling and shooting skills.  Noon to 2 p.m. in the North Meadow Recreation Center
  • Back to School Festival –games, arts, crafts, music and more.   Noon to 4 p.m. at St. Albans Park, Queens.  Event website

Sunday

  • Family Nature Crafts Festival — games, arts and crafts and more, encouraging children to be more aware of nature, and help protect it.  11 a.m. to 4 p.m., At Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 1
  • The other free Shakespeare in the park  — Hudson Warehouse present’s Richard III in Riverside Park.  6:30 p.m., on the steps of the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, Riverside Drive at 89th St.  Bring a pillow to sit on.
  • Final event of the season of the Hudson Meer Dance Festival — family-friendly performance by Ballet Hispanico.  2 p.m. at the Charles A.Dana Discovery Center, Harlem Meer, Central Park, 100th St. and Fifth Ave.
