Harlem Week has grown into a month-long celebration of the history and culture of one of the world’s most famous neighborhoods. This weekend, August 18/19, has a long list of FREE events that includes dancing in the streets, with a children’s festival and a musical tribute to Bob Marley.  Here’s part of what’s happening — you’ll find the entire schedule on the Harlem Week website.

Saturday is “Summer in the City”, with events from noon to 6 p.m., including a college fair and expo and a salute to the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence.  Saturday night features a FREE outdoor screening of a biography of Bob Marley, with his music, of course.

Sunday is “Harlem Day”, with a vintage auto show, health fair, small business expo, and concerts saluting Hugh Masakela, Miriam Makeba and Don Cornelius and Soul Train, plus a special tribute to Nelson Mandela.

The Children’s Fair is both days, with story telling, arts and crafts and more.  Find the full schedule on the Harlem Week website.
