Bet you didn’t know that August 24th is National Wafel Day. It used to go by unnoticed in NYC, until the Belgian waffle food truck Wafels & Dinges decided to turn it into an event with FREE waffles — or wafels, as the Belgians spell it. Today is the Fifth Annual Wafel Party, with tasty Belgian waffle givewawys from noon to 2 p.m. at the corner of 49th Street and Third Avneue. The celebration includes the the annual Crowning of Miss and Mister Wafel 2012, whose crown will not be made of whipped cream or other dinges, or toppings.
