Brooklyn’s Smorgasburg hosts the 9th Annual Dumpling Eating Contest on Saturday Sept. 15th. The record to beat is 69 dumplings in two minutes for the men’s division, and 37 dumplings in two minutes by women entered. Chew and swallow your way to a $1,000 first prize, $500 second prize and $300 third prize for each division. Even if you don’t win, you are eating for a good cause — proceeds from the event support Food Bank for New York City, which supplies meals to the homeless and poor. Registration is $20, and the deadline to register is September 5th. But you can watch for free, and enjoy the Smorgasburg vendors before and after the Dumpling Eating Contest, which is 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The contest duplings are supplied by Chef One Dumplings. Smorgasburg is located on the Williamsburg waterfront between North 6th and North 7th St., at the East River. Nearest subway is the L to Bedford Ave.
