Immerse yourself in the Lower Manhattan arts scene—for free. The 31st Downtown Dance Festival is New York City’s longest-running public dance festival, with a week of FREE performances, through August 18 in several locations. Highlights include Malay ethnic dance presented by a 15-member troupe from Singapore, a tribute to Woody Guthrie and the fifth annual Erasing Borders of Indian Dance Festival. Each show ends with an invitation to the audience to join the action on stage.  Shows are at Battery Park, One New York Plaza and Dance Amsterdam. Find the full performance schedule here – warning — the Battery Dance website has drum music that may startle you when it starts.
