NYC sample sales, designer discounts, http://www.nyconthecheap.comTwo things Manhattan has been missing is a full-fledged Nordstrom, and a Dairy Queen. That will change. Both chains have announced they will open locations as soon as next year.

  • Nordstrom — The upscale retailer is opening a seven-story flagship store, one of its largest anywhere, in a luxury residential building at 57th St. and Seventh Avenue, called West Side Tower.  According to Reuters, the store will create  1,000 new jobs when it opens in 2018.  This will turn West 57th Street into a mega-shopping experience for all price ranges, since the new Nordstrom’s will be in between discounters T.J. Maxx and Daffy’s  on 57th between Eighth Ave. and Broadway, and Tiffany and Bergdorf Goodman on 57th and Fifth Avenue. This will be the first Nordstrom  in New York City.  There already are several NYC locations of Nordstrom Rack, their budget-friendly discount division, including in Union Square.  There’s also a huge empty space on the corner of 57th and Eighth, where the electronics chain Circuit City was before it went bankrupt.  That would be an ideal location — I think — for an H&M, Uniqlo or Marshalls.
  • Dairy Queen — Business Week reports the home of the Blizzard will open first in the Staten Island ferry terminal, then open additional locations elsewhere in New York City, including Manhattan.
