The New York Musical Theatre Festival is a showcase of Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals that haven’t gotten to Broadway or Off-Broadway — yet. Think of it as the musical version of the Sundance Film Festival. Seats are available from $5 to $25, depending on date and time, and whether it is a reading or a more fully staged performance by professional actors and actresses. The festival is July 9th to 29th. Since launching in 2004, this festival has staged 300 plays, of which more than 70 have gone on to succesesful productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and other stages around the world. So you might be seeing the next Phantom of the Opera, Rent or Book of Mormon. Click here for tickets.
