Grab a partner and get out on the dance floor for salsa dancing and swing dancing in NYC this weekend, either outdoors or indoors.
The annual summer Moondance outdoor dancing to live bands along the Hudson River was rained out last Sunday, but the weather is looking good for this weekend’s FREE event. The bands change each Sunday, rotating among swing, salsa, tango and hip-hop, through August 5th. This week it is Los Hermanos Colon and the uptempo sounds of salsa, merengue and mambo. There’s a FREE dance lesson at 6:30 provided by instructors from Dance Manhattan studio, and the band plays two sets between 7 pm and 10 pm, at Pier 84, at 44th Street and the Hudson River. If you prefer to dance indoors, the monthly Sock Hop Sunday is swing dancing to a DJ spinning 50s and 60s Doo Wop and old fashioned rock and roll with tunes by favs like the Del Vikings, the Coasters, Bobby Rydell, Elvis and Roy Orbison, and an occasional Motown or disco song. From 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Cafe Iguana, 240 West 54th Street, a few doors east of the old Studio 54. The $15 admission includes one free beer or bar drink or two soft drinks.
See you on the dance floor!
