NYC Mulchfest 2012NYC on the cheap is good. NYC free is even better. Here is your NY insider’s guide to free concerts and other performances in NYC parks this weekend, July 21 and 22. Let’s hope the weather cooperates –

For the kids — The City Parks Puppet Mobile is in Brower Park, with a puppet show designed for kids ages 2-8.  This show is about Bessie, a cow who wants to join the circus. Moo-ving fun (sorry, I couldn’t resist that).  Show is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.  Brower Park is behind the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, at Brooklyn Avenue and Sterling Place.

For the grown-ups — The sounds of Brazil take over Central Park with a four-hour SummerStage concert showcasing the next generation musicians making a mark on the Brazilian music scene. Pertformers include  up and coming Brazilian hip-hop artists Criolo and Flávio Renegado making their New York City premiere, and also internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Bebel Gilberto, the daughter of Joao Gilberto, who made bossa nova part of the world music lexicon.  The show is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Naumberg Bandshell in Central Park, mid-park approximately at 72nd Street.  Wear comfortable shoes, because you’ll be tapping your feet to the music, and maybe even dancing.

For everybody — Learn R & R at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Re-use and recycle, that is. The theme of this weekend’s family programs is Go Green. Learn to make flowers out of coffee filters, and more. Saturday and Sunday at noon, at Pier 6.
