NYC on the Cheap, Evelyn Kanter, NYC parent,School might not be in session, but science class is in session, and parents are invited.  Science on the River is a day-long festival on Pier 84 on Saturday, July 7th, with kid-friendly, parent-pleasing activities to help kids have fun with science-oriented crafts projects and experiments.   The day is sponsored by a collection of New York City museums, environmental centers and recycling services.  The festival is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and repeats again on Saturday, August 18th.  Here’s what’s on tap –

  1. Eco friendly and sustainable lifestyles requires a bit of research. You could be eco friendly but not live a sustainable way of living. Sustainable relies more on the type of energy you use. If wind power supplies you with 20% of your requirements, then you still are relying on the coal and oil burning power companies.

  2. Wouldn’t we agree that even 20% sustainable is better than nothing? And I hope we agree that encouraging children to learn about science and the environment is productive, too.
