One of New York City’s great burger joints is closing today after 74 years, because the landlord wants them out, reportedly to sell the building. Prime Burger has been serving great, affordable breakfasts, lunches and early dinners from their location on 51st St., between Fifth and Madison, since 1938, with prices that haven’t been updated much since the Sixties. Breakfast omelettes for $3.75, prime beef burgers for $5.50, even old-fashioned cinammon toast for just $1.65, and coffee is $1.50 all day. Sad to see you go, Prime Burger. The owners say they are looking for a new location, but there’s no way they’ll be able to recreate the old-fashioned ambiance — or prices.
