Through Labor Day weekend 2010, active duty U.S. military and their families receive free admission to more than 700 museums throughout the United States, including more than one dozen in the Big Apple, thanks to a new program called Blue Star Museums. The list includes children’s museums, art museums and history museums, so take the kids. Museums are air conditioned, so they are a great place to go on hot August afternoons. The free museum for militaty program is a joint effort of Blue Star Families, a national, non-profit network of military families from all ranks and services including guard and reserve, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
