The annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks is a Big Apple tradition. One of the best views anybody can have is from a boat in New York Harbor. That’s exactly what Statue Cruises is offering. You will enjoy a stunning sunset framing the Statue of Liberty, a DJ and dinner before the real main course — that’s the world-famous fireworks over the Hudson River illuminating the Manhattan skyline. This is the second year Macy’s is back on the Hudson, rather than along the East River. Statue Cruises’ July 4th Fireworks Cruises is sending all three of its ships into the harbor for this special event. The boats leave from New York’s Battery Park at the foot of Manhattan between 5:30 and 7:00 — exact time varies by the particular boat — and the four hour cruises include views of the Statue of Liberty, New York City and the famed fireworks display.
Cost is $80 per adult and $55 per child with a casual buffet dinner of salads and sandwiches, and $130 for adults and $75 for kids for a fancier meal. Your Big Apple Cheapskate does not think this meal is worth an extra $50 per person. Or, you could stay home and watch it for free on NBC at 9 p.m. But that’s not the same thing. Reservations are strongly recommended, since this will sell out.
The 2010 Macy’s July Fourth Fireworks extravaganza will feature more than 40,000 pyrotechnic shells fired from six barges in the Hudson River in a 26-minute display synchronized to music. A special symphony of patriotic music, Broadway show tunes and other favorites is being provided by The New York Pops orchestra, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as well as a capella, gospel, choral groups and barbershop quartets. There’s a FREE download of the music on the Macy’s website.
