Join Britain's Prince Harry on Governors Island

Britain’s Prince Harry is in New York City this weekend.  He’s playing polo on Governors Island on Sunday, June, 27th.  It’s the third annual Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic,  a fund-raiser for the American Friends of Sentebale, a charity which he founded with the prince of Lesotho to support at-risk children in the tiny African nation.  Prince Harry led his team to victory last year, in 2009, over a team sponsored by fashion designer Ralph Lauren.  But this year, Harry won’t be riding his favorite polo pony, Drizzle, who , collapsed and died after a match last month, leaving the prince in tears.  You attend and can watch the match for free — remember the ferries between Battery Park and Governors Island and between Brooklyn and Governors Island are free, as are the world-famous Staten Island ferries between lower Manhattan and Staten Island.  Or, you can pay $250 to sit under a shady tent and sip Veuve Cliquot champagne.  Your Big Apple Cheapskate says it’s a lot cheaper to take a picnic lunch and a hat with a sun-shading brim.
